What is an Ombudsman?"
An Ombudsman is a volunteer (who may be a spouse,
reservist, or Auxiliarist) that is designated
by a Command to serve as a link between the
command and families. They assist the command
in its functions of providing information and
related services to families regarding sources
of assistance available to them, Coast Guard
and command policies, and activities of interest
to family members. For

Hello, I am David
Esparza your Division Chief for Retention, I
work out of District 11s. I have been in the
Auxiliary for 15 years and believe that retention
is the key to the Auxiliary success. The Retention
Department is a very diverse department not
only covering retention, but fellowship and
member benefits. We are here to help you retain
your members. We will be posting more Powerpoint
presentations on-line to assist you in retaining
and recruiting members for the future of the
Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Member
Benefits -
Branch
I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Gene Romanick
and Iam the Branch Chief for Member Benefits
in the "P" Department. Our members
seem generally unaware of the benefits available
to them as members of the Auxiliary. Member
benefits may help us recruit and retain personnel
who are key in performing the operational functions
which are the core of our mission.

Romanick, BC-PKB, Branch
Chief
Fellowship
- Branch
Welcome to the Personnel Department’s
Branch on Fellowship!
Fellowship is the Fourth Cornerstone of the
Auxiliary program and is intended to be the
glue that holds this diverse group of professionals
together so that we may efficiently serve the
U.S. Coast Guard and the boating public. We
are a results-driven organization that takes
pride on our many accomplishments, be it a courtesy
vessel examination, public education course
on safe boating, or saving a life through our
Search and Rescue program (SAR). These missions
are extremely important in fulfilling our mission
of being a force multiplier for the U.S. Coast
Guard.
Fellowship is equally as important as our operational
missions because it makes our volunteer missions
successful. At all social events and official
functions (boat patrol, meeting, etc) Auxiliarists
with like interests establish friendships which
lead to a compatible work environment.
This section of the P Department website will
be dedicated to sharing ideas on fellowship.
I will post suggestions I have gathered all
across the country on ways in which they integrate
fellowship into their everyday Auxiliary functions.
I encourage you to share any ideas or suggestions
you may have with me.

BC-PKF, Branch Chief

Recruiting
and Retention (R&R) strives to bring together
the best in personnel and programs. We work
together to maximize the opportunities that
will encourage new membership as well as ensure
that our existing membership finds satisfaction
in their service.
From the moment our Auxiliary Inquiry phone
number is dialed, Inquiry Card is sent, or the
Internet Inquiry submitted to that special Ceremony
in the Flotilla when that person takes the Oath,
our professional team works to ensure that the
questions asked are answered and the potential
member is directed to the right contact person.
Our team works together to ensure that each
member feels that sense of satisfaction as they
make their contribution to the Auxiliary and
our Country. We work to encourage our membership
into fields that will challenge and provide
opportunity for growth all the while new friendships
and fellowship are being realized.
R&R is a Division that makes a difference
to ALL members in the United States Coast Guard
Auxiliary.

Coast
Guard -
Branch
Clyde
H. Queen, BC-PRC, Branch
Chief
The chief goal of the "Coast Guard Branch" is
to target retired, or former Coast Guard personnel
into the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Many former
active duty members of the Coast Guard family
have a lot to bring back to the Coast Guard.
Some have been to Class "A" schools, some have
held Commissions, while others were senior
Petty Officers, and held very responsible
positions while on active duty. The goal
is to try to place them back into their prior positions
of expertise within the Coast Guard in
order that they can fill a void left from others
being sent overseas. As an example, I am a retired
Chief Petty Officer, and spent many years as
a Recruiting Officer. On a regular basis, I
work out of the local Recruiting Office, recruiting
not only Auxiliary personnel, but active
and reserve as well. another person may
be a retired Commissioned Officer, and may have
spent many years aboard a Coast Guard cutter.
His knowledge and expertise concerning Coast
Guard surface vessels and operations is extremely
valuable. In short, I'm trying to "bring back"
to the Coast Guard the talents, knowledge,
and expertise that was lost when the former
"Coasties" left the service.
Interior
- Branch
Anthony
M. Castelletti, BC-PRI,
Branch Chief
The responsibilities and goals
of the Interior Branch are two-fold. First,
to provide support and resources which will
stimulate membership growth in the Auxiliary.
Second, to continually develop and encourage
new ideas leading to programs and activities
designed to retain our existing membership base.
The Interior Area is made up of all six regions
of the Eighth and Ninth Districts .
External
- Branch
Gerri Flynn,
BC-PRE, Branch Chief
Keith
Fosler, BC-PRE, Branch
Chief
Greg
Yu, BA-PRE, Branch Assistant
The main function of the External Department
is to process the phone, mail and e-mail inquiries
that come in and send them to the DSO in the
various districts. This needs to be done
on a daily basis. DSO's need to follow
up on these leads to make sure someone contacts
the person inquiring.

The
Personnel Staffing Division works with the various
Department Chiefs or other staff members of
the Auxiliary to assist them in getting qualified
members for their staff. This is done
by assisting them with ads in the
Help Wanted section of the National Web
Page and maintaining a list of applicants and
skills that can be called upon to fill staff
positions.

The Uniform Division
is responsible for receiving and disseminating
information regarding uniforms. The Division
ensures that all necessary information concerning
the procurement, proper wear and maintenance
of uniforms is accessible to all members of
the Auxiliary.
The uniforms of
all members are of utmost importance to the
face of the Auxiliary. Every member in uniform
represents the Auxiliary, and subsequently,
Team Coast Guard. Our appearance not only reflects
our pride in our organization, but affects the
attitude of the public towards our mission.
Presently, the Uniform Division
is endeavoring to launch the "How Do We Look?"
Campaign. During this time, all members are
encouraged by the Division to take some extra
time to reflect on the significance of their
uniforms and the importance of proper attire.
Meetings, workshops, open forums and other instructive
means are just some of the methods by which
the Uniform Division will continue to work towards
educating all members in the proper selection,
and display, of his or her uniform. The goals
of the campaign will give intimate insight into
what this Division is about and what it intends
to accomplish.
